California Green Tech Investment, Patents, Jobs Jump

New Report Documents Powerful Economic Stimulus of Energy Efficiency

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- New statistics to be released today in the 2009 "California Green Innovation Index" document the powerful economic stimulus provided by energy efficiency and green technology in California, despite the worldwide financial crisis. The Index finds that total Gross Domestic Product (GDP) produced per unit of energy (energy productivity) is 68 percent higher in California than the rest of the nation, which generates billions for the economy. Since 2005 statewide green jobs have grown at a rate ten times faster than total job growth. Green tech venture capital investment nearly doubled in one year, hitting an all-time high of $3.3 billion in 2008, capturing 57 percent of the national total. Los Angeles, San Francisco and Sacramento together accounted for over 20 percent of the nation's hybrid vehicle registrations in 2007.

Aptera:  First Preproduction All-Electric Vehicle Complete, Full Production by October.

The first preproduction all-electric 2e model has a lithium-based battery, front wheel drive, aerodynamic mirrors and wider door openings for better egress. The 2e will accelerate to 60 miles per hour in under 10 seconds, and reach a top speed of 90 miles per hour. Energy economy – its fuel is electricity – is the gasoline equivalent of 200 miles per gallon. Driving range should be least 100 miles, adequate for most U.S. commutes.

“With the 2e set to hit the streets later this year, and with additional models already on our drawing board, Aptera will create some 1,500 jobs and more than 100,000 vehicles in the next five years,” says Aptera founder Steve Fambro. “We hope to change everyday driving forever by offering incomparable mileage and innovative technology at prices people can afford.” visit them here: »

Study: Farming limits greenhouse gases

In this photo taken June 1, 2010, central Illinois corn farmer Jerry McCulley sprays weed killer across his corn field in Auburn, Ill. A study by three Stanford University researchers credits advances in conventional agriculture for dramatically slowing the flow of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Farming groups have embraced the study, but some environmentalists argue the research is flawed and express concern that it could mask big problems with American agriculture. (AP Photo/Seth Perlman)Advances in conventional agriculture have dramatically slowed the flow of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, in part by allowing farmers to grow more food to meet world demand without plowing up vast tracts of land, a study by three Stanford University researchers has found.
